Guidebook Released on the Antelope Valley

Lancaster, CA (PRWEB via Articlecity) November 28, 2007 -- “We’re not a pretty place,” says author and day-tripping expert Bonnie D. Stone. “ No one comes to the Antelope Valley to see the beauty of a Lake Tahoe or the tall Sequoias. Tourists zip through to get to those scenic areas.”

But, Stone says in the sixth edition of the guidebook, "San Andreas Ain’t No Fault of Mine," did you know that the Antelope Valley is the largest wind energy producer? Or that some of the rarest cats are here? There’s more to the Antelope Valley than first meets the eye. The guidebook is packed with some of the most fascinating, exciting and unusual places in the region. You’ll read about the history of the Native Americans who lived in the area, early explorers, the aerospace firsts and all the movies filmed in “Hollywood’s Backlot.” In addition there is both an alphabetical listing of places to go as well as a monthly listings of festivals and directions for daytrips.

Your readers will be surprised that the Antelope Valley is:
* Hollywood’s back lot for hundreds of movies
* The first and fastest in air and space -- NASA, Edwards AFB and SpaceShipOne
* The World’s only drive-through view of an earthquake fault – 14 & Avenue S
* The Worlds most spectacular engineering feat – the Tehachapi Loop
* The World’s oddest “tree” – the Joshua – found only in the high desert
* Nation’s largest, non-game wildlife area – the Desert tortoise Natural Area, California City
* The largest concentration of petroglyphs in the Western Hemisphere – China Lake Navy Base, Ridgecrest
* The State’s largest open-pit mine – Rio Tinto Minerals in Boron
* The State’s only poppy preserve – Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve
* The Fastest Road in the West – Willow Springs Raceway
Growing up in Los Angeles, Bonnie Domrose Stone claims she was never aware of the Antelope Valley other than the times her parents dragged her to Valyermo in the horrible heat of summer. She spent her time at the much cooler environs of St. Mary's Academy and Mount St. Mary's College before transferring to Marquette University to earn her degree in journalism.

Then came the trekking: Internship at a small weekly paper in Green Lake, Wisconsin; copy girl at the Santa Monica Evening Outlook; family section editor for the Angeles Mesa News-Advertiser in Los Angeles; Family Section Editor for Lakeland Publisher's five newspapers headquartered out of Grayslake, Illinois; staff reporter for the News & Courier in Charleston; special assignment writer for Today in Cocoa, Florida, and the Honolulu Advertiser, Hawaii, and editor of Ka Nupepa, Mililani, Hawaii.

When her three sons were young, she freelanced for magazines, specializing in writing about the family for numerous local, regional and national publications.

With her first book, "Aloha Cowboy", she learned she loved doing research. She burrowed her way through libraries to produce "Uncle Sam's Brides," "Campfollowing," a history of military wives, and "Civil War in Paradise," a middle grade reader. She continues to have fun exploring a land no one knows.
